Adolphe Charles Adam: Giselle

Adam’s ballet Giselle belongs to the historical reference period of High Romanticism and is one of the most played works by international ballet ensembles. Since it was first staged in Paris in 1841, Giselle has held the attention of audiences all around the world – merited not only to the touching romantic story by librettists Théophile Gautier and Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges, but also the melodic and rhythmic lightness of the music by the renowned composer of the Romantic period Adolphe Charles Adam. The ballet, which today ranks among the oldest and most entertaining works of classical ballet literature, will be staged in its academic purity and brilliance by Rafael Avnikjan.
