Gaetano Donizetti: Maria Stuarda
Tragic opera in three acts
Guest performances by operatic companies from outside Bratislava on stage of the SND Opera enjoy a long tradition. They always serve as an opportunity for the Bratislava-based audiences to learn about the new and the most successful productions from the repertoire elsewhere in Slovakia. The State Opera from Banská Bystrica is arriving to the SND Historical Building on 25 November with one of the masterpieces Maria Stuarda by the Italian Romantic composer Gaetano Donizetti. Two immortal rivals, Elisabetta and Maria fighting for power, serve as the theme to innumerable dramas, novels and films. Schiller´s interpretation of the theme caught the ear (!) of the master of Bergamo. Donizetti interpreted it in the language of belcanto with immense sensitivity for the portrayal of characters and vocal operatic delivery. The production by the ensemble of Banská Bystrica has been mastered by the Italian director Gianfranco de Bosio, who worked in tandem with the Slovak director of music, Igor Bulla. The Bratislava performance will feature, in main roles the leading Slovak soloists Adriana Kohútková (Maria Stuarda) and Jana Kurucová (Elisabetta).
